I currently have an iPhone 3GS, but I’m getting an iPhone 4 on Tuesday. I have a whole heap of contacts that are saved to my current phone (not my sim) that I need to transfer to my iPhone 4.
What is the simplest way I can do this?

Easiest way? If you have Outlook on your computer, plug in your 3GS phone now, click the picture of it in iTunes, click the info tab, and choose to sync your contacts with Outlook. Then, when you get your iPhone 4, do the same procedure. That way, they’ll go to the computer, then the new phone.
Also, possibly as easy, is plug your old phone into your computer, right click it, and choose “Backup”…this will make a backup of everything on your phone. Then, when you get the new one, right click on it and choose “Restore from Backup”…this will move everything but iTunes purchases from your old phone to your new one.

Here is my problem. The computer I synced my iphone with has been reformated, therefore my computer now no longer recognizes my iphone and wishes to erase and sync.
My contacts were saved on my computer before it was reformated. I fear that if I let my computer sync, then it will erase all my contacts since my reformated computer no longer carries the past data.
How do I save and restore my contacts and applications without having to do it manually?

I would put the iPhone into manually manage and then copy all of your contacts and applications then after your done uncheck the box and it will sync without deleting your contacts.

I had to reinstall my computer and Itunes so I lost my music files. I’ve since downloaded new music but there are some songs which I purchased from the Itunes store that are on my Iphone. I want to sync my Iphone to my new Itunes library but I don’t want to lose my purchased songs (which are no longer saved in my computer’s Itunes library).

Go to your iPhone or iPod Touch settings application.
Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Tap Add Account.
Tap Other and then tap Add CalDAV Account.
For the Server you can simply type yahoo
Now type in the Yahoo! ID and password you use to sign in to your Yahoo! Calendar.
Once you click save, the iPhone or iPod Touch will verify your Yahoo! ID and password.
Next time you open up your iPhone or iPod Touch Calendar you will see a page allowing you to select which Yahoo! Calendar layer you would like to view or edit.
